What it does
The Folder Alphabetizer reorders the fields in one folder so they appear A to Z. Pick a folder, press Preview A–Z order, and you see the numbered list exactly as it will look. Apply it, and Sub-Account Manager updates each field's position. The results show each field's new position.
Why it matters
Field order is what your team sees on the contact record. When a folder holds twenty document slots or thirty lender names in the order they were created, reps scroll and squint. "Bank Statement 3" ends up above "Bank Statement 1", and "Zoning Notes" sits between two address fields.
In GoHighLevel, you can reorder fields by dragging them in the sub-account's Settings, under Custom Fields. Dragging works for a handful. For a folder of thirty, it's slow and fiddly, and you have to do it again every time a field is added. Organizing custom field folders in GoHighLevel covers the native drag-and-drop and how to plan folders so they stay tidy.
Order matters beyond tidiness. When fields appear in a predictable A–Z order on every sub-account you manage, reps who move between clients find "Bank Statement 3" or "Credit Score" in the same spot each time. That consistency is hard to keep with manual dragging across many accounts.
How it works
- Pick the sub-account and choose Contact or Opportunity fields.
- Open Folders, then the Alphabetize tab.
- Choose the folder from the list, or paste a folder ID.
- Press Preview A–Z order. A numbered list shows the new order. Nothing has changed yet.
- If a warning appears saying HighLevel didn't share the current positions, read it. It means the fields will get positions 1 to N and fields in other folders could shift.
- Apply. The results list each field with its new position.
- Reload the folder in GoHighLevel to see the new order.
Good to know
- Preview first, always. You see the full order before anything is written, so there's no surprise.
- Natural sorting. Numbers sort the way people expect, so "Bank Statement 2" comes before "Bank Statement 10".
- Folder names. HighLevel doesn't share folder names through its API, so folders are labeled by the fields inside them. If a folder isn't listed, paste its ID.
- Run it after changes. Each time you add fields with the Bulk Field Creator or move them with the Field Mover, a quick alphabetize keeps the folder readable.
- Dropdown options are separate. To sort the options inside a dropdown field, use the Dropdown Option Manager.
- Only that folder is reordered in the normal case. Other folders keep their existing order.
- Positions, not names. Alphabetizing changes the order fields appear in. Names, keys, merge tags and stored values stay exactly as they were.
Questions
Does sorting a folder affect fields in other folders?
Normally no. If HighLevel doesn't share the folder's current positions, the tool warns you that fields get new positions 1 to N and fields in other folders could shift, so you can decide before applying.
Which fields can I alphabetize?
Contact and opportunity fields. Pick the folder, preview the order, then apply.
