What it does
Duplicate Contact puts a Duplicate contact button on every contact page. On the Contacts list, it appears as Duplicate selected (3) once you tick contacts. Press it, and a new contact is created with the fields you chose for that sub-account. Duplicate one contact and you're taken straight to the new copy.
Which fields copy is set per sub-account on the Power-Ups page: every standard field (name, email, phone, business name, address, owner, source, DND settings and more) and every custom contact field, each with its own on/off switch.
Why it matters
Agencies duplicate contacts more than you'd think. A merchant applies for a second deal and you want a separate record. A household has two decision-makers. A contractor has two job sites with the same owner. A deal needs restarting without losing the original's history.
GoHighLevel doesn't have a native duplicate button, as of October 2026. The workaround is creating a new contact and retyping or copy-pasting each field, which is slow when a record has forty custom fields and easy to get wrong. Duplicating a contact in GoHighLevel covers the manual method step by step.
Field control is what makes it practical. A straight copy of every field is rarely what you want: you probably don't want the copy carrying the original's invoice status or work order, and copying tags can start automations you didn't intend. Setting the field list once per sub-account means every duplicate follows the same rules, whoever presses the button.
How it works
- Install the Power-Ups loader line in Agency Settings › Company › Custom JS.
- Make sure the sub-account is connected to your RGS Tools account. The copy is made with that connection.
- On the Power-Ups page, switch on Duplicate Contact.
- Open Fields to copy, pick the sub-account, and switch fields on or off. Use the filter, All on, All off or Reset. Save.
- Leave Leave money fields off on to skip invoice, payment status, deposit, balance due, tax and work order fields.
- In GoHighLevel, open a contact and press Duplicate contact, or tick contacts on the list and press Duplicate selected.
Good to know
- Never copied: workflows, appointments and notes. Tags are off by default; switch them on only if you want Tag Added workflows to fire for the copy.
- New fields follow the default. Custom fields added later are copied unless they look like money fields and that setting is on.
- Duplicate blocking. If the sub-account blocks duplicates by email or phone, you'll see a message explaining how to allow them or leave those fields off.
- Moving contacts between sub-accounts is a different job; Backup & Insights's Copy to Another Sub-account handles it.
- The "Choose fields" link under the button opens your field settings for that sub-account.
- Several at once. When you duplicate more than one contact from the list, you stay on the list and get a count of how many were duplicated.
Questions
What doesn't get copied?
Tags are off by default, because they can trigger Tag Added workflows. Workflows, appointments and notes are never copied. Money fields like invoice and payment status are off by default.
Why did GoHighLevel refuse to create the copy?
The sub-account may block duplicate contacts with the same email or phone. Turn on Allow Duplicate Contact in that sub-account's Settings, under Business Profile, or switch Email and Phone off in Fields to copy.
Can I duplicate several contacts at once?
Yes. Tick contacts on the Contacts list and press Duplicate selected. You'll be asked to confirm.
