Call recording saves the audio of phone calls made and received on a sub-account's numbers. When it's on, each recorded call appears in the contact's conversation and activity history with a play button, along with the call's direction, duration and status.
Recording laws vary. Some US states require every party's consent, so check the rules for where your clients and their contacts are, and consider a recorded disclosure on inbound calls.
In practice
Recording is set per phone number, in the sub-account's Settings under Phone Numbers: edit the number and turn on call recording (as of October 2026; the exact option names move around). From then on, calls on that number are recorded. To listen, open the contact or the conversation and play the call in the thread, where you can also download it one at a time.
That one-at-a-time access is the limit. Managers reviewing calls, clients asking for every recording from last quarter, and agencies offboarding a client all run into the same gap: there's no native bulk export of calls with their recordings, and a recording link usually requires a GoHighLevel login to play. Pulling recordings for a team means clicking through conversations one by one.
Where it shows up in RGS Tools
Conversation Exporter's call export with playable recordings exports calls to CSV, and every call with audio gets a link that plays in the browser with no HighLevel login needed, plus a column showing whether a recording exists. It works over any date range with no row caps. Backup & Insights's file backup also includes call recordings.
