What it does
The Field Browser loads every custom field in the sub-account you pick and lays them out in one list, grouped by object: contact, opportunity, custom objects and custom values. Each row shows the field name, its type and its merge tag. Click a row and a side panel opens with the merge tag, the field key, the field ID, the folder and, for dropdowns and checkboxes, every option.
Every value in that panel has a copy button. The merge tag is also copyable straight from the list, so the most common job (paste {{contact.funding_amount_requested}} into an email) takes one click.
Why it matters
In GoHighLevel, field keys live in the sub-account's Settings, under Custom Fields. To get one, you find the field, open it, and copy the key from the edit panel. That's fine once. It's slow when you're wiring a webhook with fifteen fields, writing an email template full of merge tags, or answering "what's the key for the lender field?" for the third time this week.
It gets worse with scale. A mature sub-account can have hundreds of fields spread across folders, some with near-identical names ("Monthly Revenue" and "Monthly Revenue (old)"). Native search finds names, but it won't tell you which field holds the option "Equipment Financing", and it won't show you the key without opening each field. If you manage dozens of sub-accounts built from different snapshots, the same field name can carry a different key in each one, so you can't copy a key from memory.
For a walkthrough of the native way, see how to find a custom field key in GoHighLevel.
How it works
- Connect your agency once (marketplace-app install) or a single sub-account with a Private Integration Token.
- Open Field Finder and pick a sub-account from the sidebar. It reads the fields and custom values and shows a count, like "212 fields and 18 custom values".
- Use the chips at the top to narrow to one object (Contact, Opportunity, a custom object, or Custom values). Each chip shows how many items it holds.
- Type in the search box, or press
/to jump to it. Results filter as you type. - Click a row, or use the arrow keys, to open the detail panel. Use Copy tag, Copy ID or Copy key. With a row selected, pressing
ccopies its merge tag. - Press the reload button to pull a fresh copy from GoHighLevel after someone adds fields.
Good to know
- Read-only. Field Finder doesn't write to your sub-accounts. If you want to create fields in bulk, that's the Bulk Field Creator in Sub-Account Manager.
- Folder names. Contact and opportunity field folders show an ID, or "Not shared by GHL", because HighLevel doesn't expose those names through its API. Custom object folders show real names.
- Partial reads. If one object's fields can't be read, the browser still shows the rest and puts a note at the top listing what was skipped.
- One sub-account at a time. Browsing is per sub-account. To see what differs between two, use Sub-account Compare.
- Merge tag format. Tags follow HighLevel's own patterns:
{{contact.…}},{{opportunity.…}},{{custom_values.…}}and custom object tags.
Questions
Does the Field Browser change anything in my sub-account?
No. Field Finder only reads field definitions. It never creates, edits or deletes a field, so it's safe to point at a live client account.
Why does a folder show as an ID instead of a name?
HighLevel doesn't share folder names for contact and opportunity fields through its API, so those fields show the folder ID. Custom object folders show their names.
Can I search by a dropdown option instead of the field name?
Yes. Search matches the field name, key, merge tag, ID, type, folder and the text of dropdown options, so you can find a field by an answer it holds.
