The Location ID is the unique identifier of a sub-account. "Location" is HighLevel's original name for a sub-account, and the API kept it, so most endpoints take a locationId to know which sub-account you mean. It's a random string of letters and numbers, not the business name.
In practice
There are two quick ways to find it (as of October 2026):
- Open the sub-account, go to Settings, then Business Profile. The Location ID is shown on that page.
- Look at the browser address bar while you're in the sub-account. The ID is the value after
/location/in a URL like.../v2/location/abc123XYZ/dashboard.
You'll need it when setting up a Private Integration Token in a script, configuring a webhook or Zapier step, filling in a third-party integration's setup screen, or asking HighLevel support about a specific client.
Agencies with many clients often keep a spreadsheet mapping client names to Location IDs, because copying the right ID from the right sub-account is easy to get wrong. A request sent with one client's ID and another client's token fails, and a request sent to the wrong ID with an agency token can write to the wrong client.
Where it shows up in RGS Tools
You don't need to look up Location IDs to use RGS Tools. After you connect the agency through the marketplace app, or one sub-account with a token, each tool lists your sub-accounts by name and you pick one from a dropdown. Conversation Exporter's SMS and email export includes contact, conversation and message IDs on each row.
